...Ok, not really. I'm pretty sure the reunion with my mom when she went back to Mexico to get us was waaay happier. But I'm pretty ecstatic: ANGOLA WON!!! It was SOOO exciting... we had many close calls, and everytime it happened my heart would skip a beat (seriously guys, it's easy to get SO into these games when you're in the thick of it along with 50,000 other ppl... it's almost unhealthy...)
But in the end, Angola scored 2, Malawi 0. Oh man, it was exciting. Walking out of the stadium was a hoot... people were dancing, playing noisemakers, talking and laughing loudly... it was such a celebratory atmosphere! Then on the way back into the city, whole neighboorhoods lined the streets holding big flags, small flags, tshirts, hankerchiefs, ribbons, any kinda red/black/yellow paraphanelia and cheering the procession of cars coming from the stadium. I can only imagine what kind of scene they made when the bus with the team passed by... but alas, I wasn't there to witness it. Oh boy, this has been a fun week.
I have vowed to wear black and red to work tomorrow as tribute to the great Palancas Negras. They have done us proud.
As the cheer goes:
Aqui em Angola,
mambo e assim
Palancas Negras
Ate o fim!!!
*Special thanks to Flavio, my new favorite player, for making this victory possibleb. He's such a hero! lol
